One week I had White’s Memorial as my church, Austin and I were so excited! As we climbed on their bus, a little girl was waving at me.
I said, “Hey sweetie!” She said, “I was waving bye because I don’t like you.” The counselor told me this was her first time at camp. My heart hurt but her response just made me want to get to know her better. Luckily, she was in my Bible Study so I had opportunities to talk to her and she sat beside me the whole time. One night at devotions, she looked at me and told me, “I am sorry I said I did not like you because I love you.” I just melted. I love my job because I get to work with wonderful kids like her. My favorite moment this summer is when I had a little boy named Sam* in my class and he spent the whole week not paying attention and drawing scary pictures. He had told me he was always sad for personal reasons. (He is in second grade!) On Thursday night, I made him pay attention to the gospel and he answered every question I asked. That night he got saved and by the time campfire started, he was a whole new person. He gave me 1000 hugs and shared his food with every kid around.
Sara Jenkins *Names of campers are changed to protect the privacy of campers All week Jesus had laid a certain camper on my heart. On Wednesday night, another staffer and I prayed for him. The next night, Thursday, he came down and accepted Christ and then I got to talk to him about his decision. Best night ever…
